The Sao Tome and Principe International Registry (STPIR) has been delegated by the Maritime and Port Institute of Sao Tome and Principe (IMAP-STP) to exclusively operate and govern an open international ship and yacht registry in accordance with the Maritime Legislation of Sao Tome and Principe.

Sao Tome and Principe is an island country in the Gulf of Guinea off the western equatorial coast of Central Africa and consists of two archipelagos around the two main islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, about 2 km apart and is the second smallest and second least populous African sovereign state.

Ship Registration
Being an open registry, any local, foreign, natural or legal person is entitled to apply to register any type of vessel as long as it meets the standards imposed by the Registry. The Registry permits the registration of new building vessels as well as vessels already in operation wishing to apply for a transfer under the Sao Tome and Principe flag.
Yacht Registration
Yachts for private or commercial use may be registered under the São Tomé and Príncipe flag in accordance with the Sao Tome and Principe Yacht Code.
Flag State Inspections
Sao Tome and Principe Registry has developed a wide network of flag inspectors to carry out flag state inspections and to assist owners/ managers in the unforeseen event of a Port State Control detention.
Crew Certification Services
STPIR does not impose any restriction on the nationality of officers and crew serving on board São Tomé and Príncipe registered vessels. All crew on board a São Tomé and Príncipe vessel shall hold an appropriate Certificate of Competency issued under the STCW Convention.
